Meyyappa Subramaniyam is a native of Karaikudi (KKDI), India. He spent much of his early years studying and working in the finance world, mainly Indian Overseas Bank. At the age of 48, while at the top of his career, he chose to migrate to the United States primarily for better education and career opportunities for his children. While in the U.S., he continued to work in the Bank world until retirement, and currently manages his own financial and real estate investments, as that is one of his passions. Throughout his life, he has been an avid fan of carnatic music (especially Madurai Somu) and tamil lyrics (including Kannadasan’s cinema songs). He also believes strongly in the original values and ideals of Nagarathars. Hence, he is very happy and proud to support this effort to preserve Nagarathar culture as well as the Tamil community in general.
Valliammai Subramaniyam was born in Puduvayal, India. Per tradition, she married at a young age and has been a staunchly supportive wife ever since. Her life has been devoted to her family, especially her three children. She is an excellent cook and enjoys preparing traditional Chettinad dishes. With the transition to the United States, she has become very creative in “modernizing” Chettinad cuisine to make it healthier but just as tasty! She also enjoys reading (especially devotional material) and listening to Indian music (including Super Singer Jr. of late!). She is honored to sponsor this foundation and hopes that Chettinad cuisine and values will stay alive in this fast changing world!
